This unit addresses three categories of new language that the teacher might introduce. It discusses considerations on what items to teach (particularly regarding vocabulary), what students need to know, and which factors might influence ease or difficulty of acquisition. These are all helpful guidelines, as are the suggested strategies and activities modeled on the ESA approach and the sample lesson plans. I found the information on functions interesting and see it as an important but sometimes challenging feature to teach. Therefore, I hope there will be more on it in a later unit.
