This unit discussed teaching special groups including individuals, children, business English, English for Specific Purposes (ESP), monolingual, and multilingual classes. I found it particularly interesting to learn about teaching children since I plan to do just that, and I have spent a lot of time working as a camp counselor. I realized that a lot of the skills I learned as a camp counselor will help me teach English to kids such as: being goofy/letting my guard down and being able to make fun of myself, getting down on their level, not allowing myself to pick favorites, starting off firmer and then loosening up as time goes on, and more. I also enjoyed learning about teaching business English mainly because of the point that was made about how you can use your ignorance of your student’s field to elicit more English from them. I think this can apply to any situation though, and I plan to use my ignorance of Indonesian culture to cause my students speak more English to me.
