This unit gives an overview of ways to evaluate and check student knowledge of the english language, and there are a variety of methods and tests used for different reasons. Non-testing methods include tutorials and student evaluations which help to tailor the course to student needs and help the students to review and retain information. The tests (placement, progress, practice, diagnostic, and external exam) are used at different times of the student's learning, from before the course even starts to after the course and in preparation for school, work, businesses, or living in a new country. The unit is helpful in knowing when it is appropriate to give a test and in what circumstances different methods can be used to help students learn better.
