This lesson elaborates on the different speech and written grammar structures used in English. The lesson first presents the basic functional use of a sentence to convey an ideal by following the format of subject, verb, and object. After reviewing commonly understood elements of grammar such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, objects and adverbs, the lesson presents lesser known nuances of proper grammar. Each basic concept is further examined to identify proper categorization of these elements. For example, how adjective comparisons have two methods of presenting necessary information depending on the situation. Utilizing comparatives when dealing with two people or things as opposed to superlatives which presents similar information but in a more generalized way. I am shorter than my brother. Comparative My father is the tallest in our family. Superlative I also discovered a grammatical concept that I had never heard of. Covering gerunds was interesting but admittedly I still do not fully comprehend them. With this new information I can further study this concept so that I can have a deeper understanding of gerunds and expand my knowledge of English grammar. Overall this lesson was a good refresher on proper grammar rules which also highlighted areas that I should study further to master the subject.
