Tenses are an important and often tricky part of the English language to teach. Many other languages only have three or maybe even one tense, but English has twelve. In this section I learned the four present tenses and their different uses. Present simple is used in stating facts or routines such as "I work everyday" or "She likes pasta". Present continuous is used in stating things that are currently happening such as "I am writing this paragraph." Present perfect is used when past actions have present results, or when the action began in the past and is currently still happening. This includes examples such as, "I have driven across the country" or "I have never seen him before" or "I have eaten three sandwiches today." The present perfect continuous is used when an action started at a specific time and continues to the present such as, "She has been sleeping since noon." or "I have been waiting for 30 minutes."
