This unit talked about how to create a lesson plan in order to prepare yourself for teaching an effective class. It went through what aspects must be in your lesson plan and gave some very helpful examples of possible lessons a teacher could give. The unit also put a lot of focus on the idea that each teacher’s lesson plans can/should be different, and that as one becomes more experienced, they may be able to get away with doing less detailed lesson plans. I am someone who definitely tries to be as prepared as possible before going into something, so I know I will at least start out with the very detailed route. Another important part of this unit was the emphasis on how flexible teachers need to be within their lesson plans. Teachers need to adapt to the needs of their students, and thus your plans shouldn’t be so ridged that you have mapped out everything you need to do at every minute of the class. Based on this unit, I believe the hardest thing for me will be mastering the art of allotting the correct amount of time for each activity. I have spent a fair amount of time coaching and so I hope that my experience planning practices will come in handy as I begin to teach.
