Unit 7 discusses teaching a new language and breaks down how to teach vocabulary,grammar structure and language function. When teaching vocabulary, the difficulty of a vocabulary item will depend on four factors which are, similarity to students' own language, similarity to English words already known, appropriacy, spelling and pronunciation. Unit 7 recommended using the straight and arrow ESA structure to teach vocabulary. When introducing grammar structure, its best to go over meaning, use, forms, patterns, and spoken and written forms. If the students are at mid level it is recommended that you use the ESA patchwork structure. Lastly, teaching language functions is recommended to use the ESA boomerang structure. This unit has made more clearer me the different ways to approach teaching vocabulary, grammar and language function.
