If a teacher can manage the classes well, everyone is going to benefit: the students are learning in a relaxing and supporting environment; and the teacher himself/herself will be more comfortable and confident teaching in the classes. So we need to learn some classroom management skills to be able to have good classes. First part is from the teacher: if the teacher could use “body language” well: like eye contact and gestures. The tone is also important. The next part is about the “classroom”: how we arrange the tables and chairs. The teacher’s presence in the class sometimes makes students nervous, or keep them alert. Third part I want to mention is the TTT vs. STT: in traditional teaching methodologies, the TTT is always high. But now,we learn English for a different purpose, which is to communicate. This requires teachers to lower the TTT, and leave the opportunity for students to talk. Next part is the discipline. Students need to learn in a relaxed environment. However, the lack of discipline may result in the failure of students’ language studying. Last but not least: the rapport. I think the rapport is from the trust between the students and teachers. Good relationship in the class helps everyone to learn happily.
