Past tense will be one of the most difficult topics to teach because of the different ways you can say you were doing something in the past. I had to read through this chapter twice, just to make sure that I understood the concepts so that I could figure out how to teach them. I learned that the past is just as complex as the present. I learned that past simple is the most recognizable form by just adding “ed” to the end of a verb. However I tend to use the other forms more frequently. I learned about the past continuous form and how to show students that the usage for this form is important when wanting to describe an action, which began before a specific time and probably continued after it. It is key to understand that English is a difficult and changing language. To become fluent in it you must understand that speaking things in the past can look and sound very different than the present for of a verb. But this opens up all different opportunities to form more complex sentences.
