Receptive skills are extremely important as it includes two of the 4 fundamental parts of learning any language: reading and listening; it is also important to pick a variety of different topics over a course to make sure the teacher interests all the students; Picking a topic is not an easy task, the teachers has to be very familiar with his/her students and know what kind of topics interest them; I appreciate all the sample lesson materials and general structures of a lesson; in my working experience I was following more or less the same lesson plans, picking interesting topics, then brainstorming and then pre-text work where I ask the students to underline any potentially new/difficult words and then ask them to give me example sentences to make sure they understand the words
