Unit 13 explained the complex relationship between learning the English language and using proper pronunciation. The ability for individuals to understand each other heavily depends upon their proficiency in utilizing proper intonation (which can be taught using nonsense words, gestures, humming/singing, the board), stress (on the first, second, penultimate symbol, ante-penultimate symbol, or even compound words), a lack of stress, contrastive stress, and choral work.
Sound joining (linking, sound dropping, sound changing, and extra lettering), and linked speech were explained as well. The phonetic alphabet and examples of how to use it were provided.
An in-depth explanation of articulation, and the various vocal organs were also brought to light.
