Synopsis of Unit 12, Productive skills. Productive skills are as important as receptive skills. As I have learned in the previous unit: all skills should be simultaneously developed for a student wanting to learn the English language, and not just that - therefore wanting to learn the language as strongly as possible. In this unit I learned about; speaking and writing. I learned the slightly differences between these two skills and how they link to each other in the contrary. These two skills form the fundamental reason of communication in the English language. The person who communicates has a number of reasons that lead him/her to communicate. Those reasons might be: The person is interested in what is being said, the person wants to share something and speak his/her mind, and or the topic being developed interests the individual a lot. The productive skills are further more separated in the accuracy and creativity/fluency approaches. The question is: which of either one or the other belongs to accuracy activity or fluency activity. - Writing, has the concentration on creating accurate and correct language. In order to perform writing the person has to think in advance, plan, and analize both the layout and the structure of the text. -Speaking, has a concentration on less strict activities. Arguably we can say that Speaking is almost never checked for the structure or layout. Whereas we can use speaking in different creative ways. The fluency is the strongest tool of speaking skill. I learned that teaching Productive skills is an abundant chapter with teaching games. Both Writing and speaking skills have a wide number of games that can be implemented in the spectrum of the teaching in the classroom. It's also easier to create and adapt other games which are not electronically open for the reader. I learned that: activities in speaking are separated by both accuracy and fluency, for e.g -On controlled accuracy activities the teach has the command and is the main observant of the development of the task. -On Semi accurate activities aka Guided activities: The output is controlled by the teacher but the language itself is not. -On the fluency based activities the scenario is created by the teacher- but the rest of the task and the language is developed bu the students. What I liked the most about this unit is the Creative Writing explanation. I really enjoy creative writing and I practice it with my peers and kids that I teach. Creative Writing is a strong tool to develop critical thinking in a language. It elevates your brain and trains it in order to consume more knowledge day after day. Most importantly it gives you the feeling of creating something good, accurate, well checked, and lovely to read.
