It’s right that for adult learners, a placement test is quite necessary. Because they have different educational background, different experiences, and different foundation of English. To place them in a right level could guarantee their success in the future. Putting them in a easy level may not give them a chance to make progress. While putting them in a too difficult level may demotive them because it is hard for them and they will lose the confidence. Designing some progress tests for students is very important as well. After we get their learning progress, allow more time for the slower students, and encourage the quicker students. It’s also essential how we design the progress tests. A formal “test” could make students nervous and results in the bad results. If the teacher could think about it, and try to create a more relaxed testing way. Students may benefits more from it.
