When it comes to teaching students a new language, it is important to know the level of your class so that you can properly choose what and how to teach them. Teaching new students vocabulary is important and will depend on the similarity to the student's own language, the similarity to already known English words, the spelling and pronunciation, and whether or not it is appropriate at that point in time. On top of this, students will need to know what the new language means, how to use it, what the grammatical forms are, and how it is spoken and written. Finally, the students will then need to learn the function of the language, or what purpose it is trying to show.
