This unit helped me think about the skills that non-native speakers want to acquire on a broader basis. Reading and listening are two core components of learning a new language, and they should be thought of and taught in a similar manner as is applied to teaching tenses or grammatical structures. I enjoyed the example in the unit on Elvis, as it was a clear example and can be replicated with relevant phenomena or celebrities in the classroom for a variety of topic areas.
