In this unit we learned how to introduce vocabulary, grammatical structures and language functions to students. For vocabulary you need to first select the vocabulary you want to teach. The appropriacy of the vocabulary for the students and the task is very important. Will they frequently use the vocabulary? Is it teachable? For example we have to make sure it is not too difficult for beginners. In this unit we also got ideas for how to engage the students. For example we can use mime and action, pictures, discussion, contrast and discovery when teaching vocabulary. When we teach grammar we have to teach the meaning, the use, the forms and patterns as well as the differences between spoken and written forms. Using ESA to introduce all these structures is very helpful. The teacher must decide on how and whether is will be a straight arrow ESA, patchwork ESA or Boomerang ESA.
