This unit provided an overview of the most widely used methods for learning language and was followed by a discussion of the Engage-Study-Activate method used for this course. Next, the use of elicitation was discussed in detail and examples of elicitation were give. This was followed by a discussion of the 3 stages that make up the Engage-Study-Activate method. The purpose for each stage of the method was explained as well as how each stage should be implemented. This was followed by sample activities for each stage of the lesson. Next, correcting mistakes and errors during the lesson was discussed and the unit ended with guidelines for developing a lesson plan. I believe I have learned that a affective lesson needs to include all 3 stages of the Engage-Study-Activate method and that each stage of the lesson has a specific purpose. Next, I learned that correction should be kept to a minimum during the Engage and Activate stages of the lesson and that the main purpose for these stages is to get the students talking and to encourage fluency. It is during the study stage of the lesson that new language skills are practiced and where correction is given. Correction should start with the student then be made by other students and lastly by the teacher. Lastly, I learned that there can be lots of flexibility with the method as long as all 3 stages are present and the lesson starts with the engage stage and ends with the activate stage.
