In this study Unit I learned about the phonology of English. This involved studying and learning about intonation, stress, and articulation.
In order to effectively teach a new language we need to teach our students the correct pronunciation of the english language, and this involves incorporating a phonology study into our lessons. Also owing to the fact that most students and teacher are more concerned with developing their speaking and listening skills as oppose to their writing skills.
However, this can prove to be a challenge if the teacher lacks the proper training, thus not being able to properly model the correct pronunciation of the language.
In this study unit we looked at various teaching techniques that could be used in the classroom to help further develop and improve pronunciation. These include practicing and improving students use and recognition of intonation and stress, as well as studying the phonemic alphabet to help with articulation.
