Students are mostly face with difficulties in applying tenses appropriately and teachers need to be proficient in order to help students to overcome these difficulties. This unit covers four aspects of the present tense: simple, continuous, perfect and perfect continuous.
There are four main areas that are covered in each tense: (1) forms, (2) usages, (3) typical student errors/mistakes and (4) activate stage teaching ideas. Four tense aspects all include 3 forms: affirmative, negative and question. However, there are different usages depending on different circumstances. To help students to clarify, teachers should provide examples for each usage. On the other hand, students usually make typical mistakes/errors in each tense. Therefore, the teacher should predict and formulate correction strategies and examples in advance. Finally, teachers should prepare teaching ideas for activate phase as it encourages students to communicate by using the tense studied in the lesson.
