This unit covered what the different parts of speech are and what the general rules are for using each part of speech. The unit explained how to use nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions, and conjunctions. I was generally aware of what all the parts of speech were and how to use them, but there were a lot of rules that I had never learned before because I am a native English speaker. For example, I had never heard of countable and uncountable nouns, but I obviously use them correctly every day when I speak English. My ESL students really struggle with articles, and I think this lesson has helped me understand them better so that I can help my students. I used to just think that "a/an" were used before general nouns while "the" was used before specific nouns, but now I understand that it is more complicated than that.
