This unit reminded me of my favorite class from my university days. It was called History of the English Language. I found a lot of the information that I had learned in that class to be useful later when I began to tutor in English. It not only helped me to teach better, but it also helped me to understand English better. This unit refreshed my memory on how to read the phonemic alphabet, and I can not see how teaching my students this if they do not already know will help them to better understand English pronunciation. It has often amazed me how English in comparison to Korean, is so different this way. Korean has a phonetic alphabet that is used in writing, whereas English has does not use theirs.
