This unit was about the productive skills of English: speaking and writing. When teaching students to speak English, the two types of activities that follow are accuracy and fluency activities. Accuracy activities, like drilling and model dialogues, work to refine the student's speaking ability and produce correct language. Fluency activities, like free role-play and discussions, challenge students to experiment with the language and get creative to test effectiveness and flow of communication. Pair and group work are ideal to encourage students to speak. When teaching writing skills, teachers must consider handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation, and creative writing.
