I have learnt about course books and materials. Many students are more interested in the materials created by the teacher and find it more relevant. Materials are grouped into Authentic and Created.
Anything a native speaker can hear or read is described as authentic. Such as programs, magazines, newspapers, songs.
Some reasons why we use authentic materials are;
They are real and therefore more interesting and motivating, Students gain confidence when they understand them, They can be geared to the interests of a particular group of students.
Created materials are usually designed by the teacher to replace or supplement materials from a course book. Examples are crosswords, picture stories, flashcards, role play cards.
Course books usually consists of set of materials such as student’s books, workbook, cassettes, teacher’s books.
