It was very interesting to read about the extent of what's involved in reading and listening besides just your eyes and ears. There are also many different skills related to reading and listening that aren't apparent right away, such as predictive skills, scanning and skimming skills, and even deduction skills. While these are all things we do without thinking about in our native language, they are a lot more difficult to do in a foreign language and definitely need practice to master.
