This unit goes more in depth into classroom management skills -- particularly with issues that a teacher can face. With a first lesson, it is important that a teacher builds a good first impression with a student, and establishes the environment of the classroom. Thus, this can be best executed with a fun, get-to-know-each-other activity, as opposed to a lesson from the textbook. Teachers might have to deal with different levels of understanding in the classroom, and for this is important to utilize different materials and pair students up with each other to build community and have strong students help weaker ones. Large classes and use of native tongue are also issues a teacher could face, and the unit gives great advice on how to deal with this. Reluctant students should be cared for with patience and controlled practice, and students who have difficulties with listening texts should be helped extra. It is also always good to have extra activities available for students who finish quicker than others!!
