When students start learning a new language, the first thing they are motivated to learn is basic vocabulary. This is when a teacher has to decide which vocabulary exactly he needs to suggest. A teacher should mind how fast students can learn new words(especially for low-level students), how frequent they are going to use/come across them, how appropriate they are for students and for a class topic. In order to learn new words and apply them correctly, a teacher has to explain meaning of given words, how they are pronounced and spelled, how they interact with other words and what parts of speech they are. When it comes to teaching grammar, a teacher should explain meaning of new grammatical structures, show their patterns, how they are applied in speech or in written language. Another important point is teaching language functions, like requesting, suggesting, refusing, agreeing/disagreeing, complaining etc.. While teaching language functions a teacher will mind the appropriacy of the language depending on speaking situations.
