This unit dealt with Managing Classes, and covered important topics such as the teacher's use of eye contact, gestures, voice, and student's names during the lesson. It also including subjects such as grouping students in various ways depending on the activity (with their pros and cons), planning the seating arrangement, depending on various factors such as group size, space available, and the degree of dominance or informality desired. It talked about the importance of reducing teacher's talking time and encouraging students' talking time, and gave tips on how to give good instructions. It also included establishing rapport with students, maintaining discipline, preventing problem behaviors and responding to these as well. I thought the advice on how to prevent and also respond to behavioral problems in
the classroom particularly interesting and helpful, as I have found this to be a major problem in many of the schools in my country.
