This last unit discussed common problem situations in the classroom and how to go about dealing with them. This included first lessons, warmers for the class, students being at different levels, large classes, reluctant students, difficulties with listening texts and use of native language. They explained each situation and gave useful ideas and tips for dealing with each situation. For example, they gave examples of class warmer activities such as hangman or memory games to motivate students at the beginning of a lesson. This was one of my favorite units, since it discussed some of the areas I am most concerned about in teaching. For example, I understand how important the first lesson can be to set the mood of the classroom and therefore I want to be able to have an effective and fun first lesson. This unit gave me a list of the minimum objectives I should achieve during this lesson, such as establishing a rapport with my students. Now I have groundwork to build off of for my classroom.
