This unit focused on the idea of pronunciation by giving a general review of intonation, stress, the phonemic alphabet, and articulation. For example, it discussed general rules of where we place stress in individual words and in sentences. The unit finished by discussing various ideas on how to teaching pronunciation of individual sounds and examples of when teachers teach pronunciation in their classrooms. I believe this unit is one I have learned the most from, since I do not have a lot of formal knowledge of pronunciation. I am grateful for this since I believe pronunciation is a key skill to help students feel confident and a mastery of a language. I definitely will use the techniques discussed such as using mouth diagrams and modelling sounds when teaching. I was also good to know how flexible one can be in when to work on pronunciation into the classroom. I am interested to try the different methods of when to teach pronunciation with my class to see what I believe works best for my students(i.e., lesson slots or whole lesson).
