This unit focuses on how to teach the productive skills: writing and speaking. It goes over what is important to teach for each skill; for example, handwriting, spelling and punctuation are important in writing in addition to grammar and vocabulary. It also discusses activities that can be used to teach these skills. For instance, role play can be used as a fluency activity for practicing one’s speaking skills. Finally, they gave examples of ESA activities to help students with their writing and speaking. I learned a lot from the example of activities given during this unit. For example, the idea of using both accuracy and fluency focused activities to teach speaking. These are both important skills one should practice and I will be sure to include in lesson plans.
