Unit 11 described receptive skills, which include reading and listening, and how best to teach these skills to students in an engaging way. Receptive skills can be used for a purpose/to achieve a goal or for entertainment. When teaching receptive skills, it is very important that the texts or audio dialogue presented to the class are appropriate for the language level of the students. It is also recommended that complex words are taught ahead of the reading or listening material to help the students understand the material after only one or two times listening to it. If the material is too difficult, the students will lose confidence in their abilities.
