There are four aspects in the past tenses. Past simple that describes an action that was at particular time in the past. Second is past continuous which talks about a particular point in the past around which was the progress. Third there is a past perfect which literally talks about past in the past. In other words, an action accrued before another action in the past. Finally, there is past perfect continuous that talks about an action that was in progress in the past till certain point and no longer it’s given, whether the action continues or finished.
