A few major grammatical points are discussed in this chapter including the very common use of modal verbs. Modal verbs express obligation, possibility, permission, ability and advice. They can be used to express different forms of formality, they don't change according to the subject, and are usually followed by a verb in its base form. The passive vs. active voice in English refers to the emphasis or absence of the subject in a sentence. The dependent clause of sentence is not a complete sentence and must be attached to the independent clause, which contains the main subject and the verb. The relative clause is a dependent clause that modifies a noun. It describes or gives further information about a noun. Phrasal verbs are multi-word verbs and consist of a verb plus one or two particles (a preposition or an adverb).
