This unit really brought to light how little I know about the nuances to English grammar. I could always describe the basics to parts of speech. For example, I could give very simple lessons on nouns, adjectives, and verbs. I didn't know, however, how there different types of verbs such as transitive and intransitive verbs. Like the introduction to the unit mentioned, I can detect all of these subtleties but I would never knew why. I would have never thought that we have a specific order to lists of adjectives; I just knew that "the red, small, old car" doesn't sound quite right. I am lucky that I was raised to understand English through context, as this unit made me realize that I will need to put a lot of care when educating my students on the rules of the parts of speech. They will not understand things the same way that I will.
