This unit focuses on conditionals and reported speech. Conditionals are sentences which refer to past, present, and future possibilities. Zero conditional is if/when + present tense, present tense. First conditional is if + present simple, will. Second condition is if + past simple, would/could/might + base form. Third conditional is if + past perfect, would/could/might + have + past participle. Mixed conditional is if + past perfect, would + base form. Reported speech is speech that reports what someone else has already said. All of this was new for me to think about in terms of the English language and I would imagine that it would only be taught to extremely advanced English students, as it seems difficult to teach.
