This unit was a very useful unit in terms of observing the details of teaching in the classroom. In particular, it was helpful to compare the first lesson with the second and becoming aware of the seemingly small details that make a large impact on the attitude, behavior and comprehension of the students. For example, the teachers relatively negative attitude in the first lesson, disregard for the clearly confused students and lack of explanations made it abundantly clear how important it is to come into the classroom prepared, positive and flexible. That is, I realized how the teachers own attitude and abilities impact the way and degree to which the students learned. I will definitely be looking back to the second lesson plan to pick up on more skills that the teacher uses to create a pleasant and productive classroom environment.
