In my study of languages, I have found that learning and remembering verbs tenses is one of the most difficult hurdles to get through. English verb tenses can be challenging for non-native learners of the language because they often include many irregular forms. For example, many past participle forms of verbs, such as "had," "said," "ran" and "took" are irregular. As this particular unit shows, the present tense verb forms alone are quite complex and difficult to master. By breaking down the four present tense forms and explaining their usages, this unit helps future ESL teachers explain the nuances of these tenses and their differences to students. Additionally, this unit offers engaging activities, such as having students narrate stories using a combination of the present simple and present continuous, as a way of helping them cement these forms. The audio-lingualism method, which includes lots of language drills, would probably be good to utilize in a lesson about verb tenses.
