This chapter focused on the importance of speaking and writing when learning a language. For many students learning English speaking and writing are often different depending on their native language. Another factor is the grammar and with English not being a phonetic language spelling becomes even more difficult. Accuracy and fluency are both equally important to focus on when it comes to speaking for students. Accuracy should be done in the study phase and fluency in the activate stage. When it comes to engaging students in both speaking and writing, they must be prompted to see the importance of what is being taught and participating, or else the lesson will not be effective for the student. Therefore the teacher should take extra care in preparing clear instructions for students, and transitioning as well as communicating the importance of what the lesson is going to encompass for the day.
