As I have been working through each unit of lesson, I have been considering in what way I want to plan my lesson plans. While reading through this chapter and incorporating the knowledge from previous units on ESA and certain activities a class may find useful in learning, I also thought about how I learned other languages in public school and in college. I remember my teachers and professors lesson plans that were structure in a systematic way that allowed us to learn “textbook material” such as vocabulary, followed by dialogue practice, reading and writing, and free talk. I think that the structure is certainly necessary for elementary levels, and building a strong foundations when a class is beginner. However, in my personal experience as well, after intermediate language fluency the structure becomes a bit dry and boring for students. I hope that as a teacher I can keep advanced students engaged, and beginner students informed and teach in a simple and understandable way.
