I have learnt to balance the class and avoid skewing the lesson towards the students or myself as a teacher. There must be a balance between the teacher facilitating the class and students taking part. The teacher must not overtake the class and must guide the students towards independence, creativity, learning and confidence in building their own linguistic skills.
A good teacher works with an awareness of cultural differences, native language influences, English ability, background/history and motivation of students. A great teacher will not ignore those factors and will use them to encourage the students and build their confidence in learning the language.
A great teacher builds trust with students and produces great students by creating fun, entertaining and relevant lessons to assist the students in reaching their linguistic goals.
