EFL Teachers are likely to at some point or another encounter a number of typical classroom problems and difficulties. It is wise to anticipate these and have solutions in mind. One difficulty arises in the use of the mother-tongue in class in monolingual classes. This should be avoided as much as possible to maximize the students' use of English. In order to promote this, the teacher should refrain from using the students' L1 and only respond to English. Additionally, instructions should be clear and at the language level of the students so that there are no misunderstandings or confusions to clear up. If use of non-English in the classroom is normal, then students might resort to their L1 on points that they could have managed to say in English.
