Another very important decision that a teacher has to make is what kind of lesson materials he/she is going to use in classes, and whether to use a course book or not. In some cases, the teacher doesn't make the decision about course books but he/she can still decide to supplement the course book with additional materials. When doing that a teacher must take into consideration a number of factors : age of the students, their language level, cultural and economic background, what are their needs etc. There is a large number of EFL course books available on the market nowadays. We can say that every course book has certain advantages and disadvantages as well. If a teacher is lucky enough to get to choose the course book himself/herself, then he/she should pay attention that a course book meets certain criteria and that is appropriate for his/her students. One of the main advantages of course books is that they contain a mix and balance of all four skills, and usually there are other materials accompanying the course book like: teacher’s book, workbook, video or audio CDs etc.
