In this unit we learnt the future tenses, their usages, forms and teaching ideas for each of them. Future simple tense is formed by subject + shall/will + base verb and is used for future facts and certainties, promises, predictions (based on no present evidence), assumptions, spontaneous decisions, threats. It's mportant to distinguish usage of 'shall' and 'will'. Teacher may use varied teaching ideas. Future continuous is formed by subject + will + be + verb + ing (present participle) and is used to say that something will be in progress at the particular moment in the future; to 'predict the present' to say what we think or guess might be happening now; for polite enquries referring to other people's plans, but not to influence the listener's intentions; to refer to future events which are fixed or decided (without suggesting personal intentions). As teaching ideas a teacher can use arranging diaries/dates, trying to get out of the date from hell, illustrative situations, etc. Future perfect is formed by will + have + past participle and is used to say that something will have been done, completed or achieved by a certain time in the future. Teaching ideas should reflect the usage of the tense. Future perfect continuous is formed by will + have + been + verb + ing and is used to say how long something will have continued by a certain time. Another form to express the future tense is formed by verb 'to be' in the present + going to + base form of verb and is used for intentions, predictions based on present evidence, plans (decisions made before speaking). Presnt simple also can be used to express future tense to suggest a more formal situation, for timetables and schedules, to suggest a more impersonal tone. Present continuous also can be used to express future tense: for definite arrangements, for decisions and plans without a time frame. As teaching ideas diaries/schedules, role=plays can be used. A teacher has to be flexible, creative in selecting the teaching ideas and find those ones which would be appropriate to the tense.
