In my opinion, parts of the speech are the foundations of any language. It is the structure, the skeleton of it. Understanding the differences between it and its purposes will be essential for any further advancement in the field of studying the language. I perceive letters as atoms or molecules, while words are people and sentences are families or communities. The laws of grammar are in a way similar to the laws of nature: everything derives from something and is connected with other parts of a whole. Adverbs are connected to verbs, pronouns and adjectives are connected to nouns. Even the small parts of speech like prepositions can actually affect the meaning of a full sentence if changed or put into a wrong place. Most of the grammar rules are based on a simple logic, but there are also many exceptions, like irregular verbs that should be memorized separately. Irregular verbs are like weird members of a big family that require a special attention. And memorizing these verbs can also be fun. I still can’t pronounce swim-swam-swum without a smile. English grammar rules have always been and still are the source of many nursery rhymes. And this goes the other way around. If you can smile about something, then you just might as well remember it properly.
