When it comes to teaching and learning a foreign language, many different theories, methods and techniques have appeared and evolved throughout history. Each of these methods and techniques has positive aspects which can be incorporated into teaching and also each of them has downsides that should be avoided. The choice of teaching technique and specific activities is based on many factors such as language level of the students and their age, cultural background etc. ESA methodology developed by Jeremy Harmer is widely used among EFL teachers nowadays. It consists of three phases (engage, study, activate) and each of them has specific goals and aims. Also, different types of activities are used in each of the phases. ESA lessons always begin with engage phase and end with activate phase, while the middle portion of the lesson can be organized differently. Having that in mind there are three types of ESA lessons: “straight arrow”, “boomerang” and “patchwork”. A very important part of teacher’s work is giving feedback to students and correcting their mistakes. When it comes to giving feedback and error/mistake correction, a teacher must be sensitive not to undermine students ‘ motivation and self-confidence. When giving feedback and correcting mistakes a teacher should emphasize the positive points first, as giving praise is sometimes even more important that correcting mistakes and errors.
