This unit shows us that there are many ways to design a lesson, including the ESA and variations of its structure. Most lessons will want to engage students at the beginning and then transition into more focused time on a specific word, phrase, grammatical structure, etc. Teachers will also want students to have time to practice the new structure while utilizing previously-learned words and phrases. Overall, this paradigm (and its variations) gives language teachers a basic structure to create and teach lessons. Of course, as the teacher becomes more advanced, more creative and innovative paradigms can be utilized.
