This unit is about the different skills used to read and listen. Reading can be easier because new learners can take their time to re-read text, but in listening the information is only often given once. For both reading and listening, the person can be doing it to find specific information or for pleasure. During purposeful read / listening, the person can scan, skim, predict or deduce. Finally, it is important to vary the text / audio given to the new learners, so that it can be interesting to many different individuals. Lastly, it is important to give text / audio that is at the level of the students. I think this unit was good, because it made me think about how we read / listen, and how I could teach the different ways.
