In class management we use various methods, such as eye contact, gesture and the voice. Good eye contact is essencial to establishing good report with the students. Gestures should only be used if they are obvious in meaning. A teacher's voice should change naturally according to the circumstances and the greater the variation of the voice, the greater effectiveness. It is important to use the name of a student at the end of the question that keeps the whole class alert. Grouping students in different ways (whole-class grouping, students working on their own, pairwork, groupwork) has its own place in the classroom and depends on many factors, one of the most important the purpose of the activity. The way a teacher organises the position of the students and himself is important and depends on space available, type of chairs/tables, age of the students, nationality and student personality. There can be different forms of seating: orderly rows, circles and horseshoes, separate tables. The position of a teacher in the classroom tells the students what kind of activity it is, what the teacher's role will be, what the students are expected to do. A teacher should use varied ways to reduce the amount of time spending with his back to the class while he is writing on the board. At the same time a teacher shouldn't forget about giving individual attention to the students who need it. The balance between TTT and STT depends on the type of lesson/activity and on the level of the students. The teacher should be able to provide the students with a source of natural, correct English. There are several rules how to make the instructions effective: using simple languages, being consistant, using visual clues, checking the instructions. Establishing rapport between the teacher and students (and between the students themselves) plays an important role in determing the successs of the class. In maintaining discipline it is important that the teacher strikes the correct balance between exercising control and encouraging relaxed, friendly atmosphere conducive to learning.
