There are different methods and techniques to teach the English lesson. Some methodologies are used nowadays, some became old-fashioned: Grammar-translation, audio-lingualism, Task-based learning, The silent way and Suggestopedia. There some teaching theories, such as: PPP, Communicative Language Learning, Community Language Learning, The Lexical approach and ESA. Among all these methodologies Engage-Study-Activate (ESA) is the most effective and the most logical one. All ESA lessons should have the following components: Engage, Study and Activate. On the first stage "Engage" the teacher should try to arouse the students' interest and get them involved in the lesson. On the second stage "Study" the students will focus on the language and how it is constructed. On the stage "Activate" the students are encouraged to use any/all of the language they know. The order of these stages can be changed within the lesson, still one rule exists that all lessons should start with an Engage stage and finish with an Activate stage. According to the order of the stages there are 'Straight Arrow', 'Boomerang', 'Patchwork' ESA lessons. It is important to give feedback to encourage students' self-awareness and improvement. We should distinguish between mistakes and errors. Praising the students is equally as important as correcting. There are few option of correcting that should better go in this order: self correction, student-student correction, teacher-student correction. The most effective way of correcting written work is by using codes in the margin or the body of the writing.
