In this unit, teaching books and materials are described. Authentic materials are materials used by native speakers in everyday life and are not suitable for beginners. Created materials are created often by the teacher and can be adapted to fit different needs of students. Course books contain student books, work books, a teacher's book, a syllabus, and other created materials. It is often expected to have a course book by the students, and they provide a good structure, balance, option for new teachers, and appeal. However, as a theme in this TEFL course, it is important to not adhere too strictly to the course book because it is written for a general audience and not what types of students are necessarily in a teachers class. All in all, I learned that it is important to continually adapt materials to my potential students needs by omitting, replacing, or supplementing the materials I have.
